Yes, we can scallop trim your retainers on request. Scalloped cut retainers are trimmed to match the shape of your gums, following the peaks between your teeth. Straight cut retainers are trimmed across the top of your gums. Research shows that straight-cut retainers stay in place better than scalloped cut retainers and are less likely to crack and brake over time. If you do prefer scalloped trim, just let us know on the comment card when returning impressions.

I have a permanent retainer placed in the back of my front teeth. Do your retainers work well with this ? I know that at my old orthodontist the created little bubbles in the back of the tooth so the retainer wouldn't wear the wire out. See more »

Having a fixed wire retainer isn't an issue. We will do the same as what your dentist did. We will block out the area so that the retainer will fit over the wire retainer. This isn't an issue for us at all and is very common.

No, a new retainer cannot be made from an old one. It would be like making a copy of a copy, resulting in a loose fit that wouldn’t effectively hold your teeth in place. However, if you have a model or 3D scan from your dentist, we can use it to create a replacement set of retainers. Our patented self-impression kit is also a simple and accurate way to take impressions for a perfectly fitted retainer See more »

Will these protect my teeth from grinding AND keep my teeth from shifting? See more »

Yes, our retainers will help with light teeth grinding and clenching. Our retainers tend to be made from stronger material than is typically used. If you are wearing though retainers in less than 6 months then we do have special Night Guard Retainers These retainers are made from 1.5mm of material and can take the stress of grinding and clenching better.

You can, but it will not be as effective as using whitening trays. The retainers will be very tight on your teeth and push the gel up and onto your gums. This can lead to potential damage to the gums and the whitening gel needs oxygen to work. With the retainer being so tight, it won't activate as well due to lack of oxygen. We suggest adding on a pair of whitening trays to your order if you are interested in both retainers and whitening trays. See more »

Yes, you can use whitening gel with your retainers to whiten your teeth, and it won’t damage them. However, retainers aren’t as effective as custom whitening trays. Because retainers fit so tightly against the teeth, most of the gel gets squeezed out, reducing its effectiveness. For better results, consider adding custom whitening trays to your order. These trays are designed with small reservoir pockets that help keep the gel in place for optimal whitening. See more »

Can I get thinner Retainers? See more »

Our standard retainers in 1mm thick (this is the thickness the material starts off as). 1mm material is standard in the dental industry for retainers. We do have .8mm material available. This material can be requested on the comment card inside the impression kit, and we can switch the material to a .8mm thinner material.
